Thanks to a large donation from Assured Insulation
[New Chicago, IN, May 10th, 2019]- On May 12th 2019, the furriest member of the New Chicago Police Department, a German Shepard named Fido, underwent an important root canal surgery as well as titanium tooth replacement. Now Fido is back at work assisting her handler, Officer Anne Malinoff, and protecting the streets and neighborhoods of New Chicago as a dual purpose drug detection and patrol dog.
Officer Malinoff: “The K9 program has been an amazing asset to New Chicago. With the work ethic of myself and Fido we have even had other agencies call us out to help them out to locate people, and narcotics”. But work had been tough for Fido after a tooth injury worsened. “Fido has been working with a(n) injured mouth… at 60% or less capacity with his mouth hurting him every single day,” says Malinoff. The root canal and tooth replacement were essential to keeping Fido on the job.
This surgery was made possible by a large donation from Cal Pickup, owner of Assured Insulation Solutions. Cal is no stranger to law enforcement himself, as a 12 year veteran of the police force. Cal was forced to retire from law enforcement in 2003 after being injured while making an arrest on a traffic stop. “But I still bleed blue!” says Pickup. Assured, based out of Frankfort, serves the New Chicago community by providing free energy assessments and insulation upgrades through local utility programs to homes and businesses in NW Indiana.
There was not enough room in the budget for this procedure without the help of Assured Insulation Solutions, a full service home performance and insulation company serving the South Chicagoland area and Northern Indiana. Malinoff: “Fido and I are very grateful for the donation. Words can not describe what it means to us as we move forward in our career… If we weren’t able to get the money for the surgery (I) would have had to figure out a way to pay for his surgery out of my own pocket because that tooth had to be removed for his health and well being.”
